Role: 

We are seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of Information Technology (IT) to lead the development and management of our IT infrastructure and systems. This role is ideal for a tech-savvy leader with experience in regulated life sciences environments, capable of balancing the tactical needs of a startup with the strategic vision needed for scalable growth. 

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership 

  • Build, develop, and execute the company’s IT strategy by partnering with scientific, clinical, and business stakeholders to align technology with organizational objectives. 

  • Build a lean IT roadmap to support growth, compliance, clinical development, and eventual commercialization. 

  • Serve as the primary IT liaison to identify and implement impactful technology solutions. 

  • Evaluate and recommend technology solutions to improve operational efficiency, data integrity, and security. 

Infrastructure & Systems Management 

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of all implemented IT systems (cloud, network, endpoint, storage, etc.). 

  • Manage outsourced IT partner, service providers and vendors to ensure high performance and cost-efficiency. 

  • Lead the deployment and support of business-critical systems including ERP (finance/HR), clinical platforms, and document management tools. 

  • Manage inventory control systems for all company assets. 

Data Governance, Security & Compliance 

  • Implement and manage various IT policies and procedures. 

  • Assist with performing vendor risk assessments and evaluation of Master Service Agreements, Service Level Agreements, and vendor compliance documentation. 

  • Oversee cybersecurity programs, including SOX compliance, risk assessments, incident response, disaster recovery, access control management, and end-user training. 

  • Ensure secure handling of sensitive clinical and patient data in compliance with regulatory requirements and continuous audit readiness. 

Operational Support 

  • Provide day-to-day support to ensure high availability and performance of systems and infrastructure, including lab and computational systems.       

  • Manage relationships, licensing, and renewals with external MSPs, cloud providers, and SaaS vendors. 

  • Create scalable IT support processes and systems to accommodate an onsite, hybrid and remote workforce. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant work experience  

  • 12+ years of progressive IT experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. 

  • Experience supporting IT in a life sciences or biotechnology environment (ideally at the clinical stage). 

    Understanding of GxP, Part 11, data integrity, and IT controls in regulated environments. 

  • Core understanding of modern security and compliance frameworks, including NIST, SOC2, and GDPR. 

  • Proven experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure)and SaaS platforms. 

  • Experience with modern cybersecurity concepts and technologies. (e.g., Zero-Trust platforms, SASE, EDRs, SIEMs)  

  • Hands-on experience with modern data backup and recovery solutions and a strong understanding of their underlying procedures and best practices. Experience scaling IT in a startup or high-growth environment. 

  • A strong focus on documentation skills and technical writing abilities. 

  • Familiarity with tools and systems used in biotech/clinical settings  

  • Strategic thinking with a hands-on, solution-oriented approach. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. 

  • High integrity and commitment to compliance and data security.
